Animal Care

Depending on the weather conditions, and the special needs of each group, animal care takes place indoors or outdoors
Feeding the horses is part of Animal Care
Brushing and combing horses are the basics of animal care. Children with learning difficulties enjoy the sessions most!

The stages of Animal Care:

First Contact: A short talk will be made on the equine and animal care. Visitors will bush and comb the animals, under the guidance of the EFC instructor.

Feeding : Twice a day visitors will have to feed the horses and the other animals. The timing of the feeding will be discussed and settled with the group leader.

Goodbye Time : Visitors will feed the animals carrots, bread and goodbye the horses. Goodbye time is usually done at the last day of the visit.

Objectives of the program:

  • Bring people in direct/actual contact with animals
  • Give them the satisfaction and fulfilment of having alone taken care of an animal each
  • Allow/give visitors to understand that they are needed, that they are useful for the operation of the farm
  • Give them the opportunity to learn something new, something out of the usual routine of the city life
  • Develop and improve their ability to receive and use sensory information in their daily life.

Although Animal Care is a voluntary task, all visitors are suggested to participate. Visitors will have to brush, comb and feed a few animals twice a day. Ponies, horses, donkeys and dogs will be included.

Animal Care is a brilliant program bringing in contact our visitors with the animals and the farm life. It is a very giving program, and it helps people discover other/diverse sides of their self.
